

SelectionI raised my weary gaze to the midnight sky. To my left, the orange flames flicked their threatening tongues to the stars, taunting the endless abyss above them, beckoning any and all eyes watching to join the prisoners in their last moments. My gaze fell for the millionth time to the naked prisoners standing before me. Winters frigid wind whirled around us, whispering, laughing, mocking us all with its freedom. The sound of each second creeping by reached my aching ears, breaking the horrid silence that once filled the vacant area. This room, this eerie black hallway was abnormal; nothing but what was originally placed into it made noise, and everything except the oddly glowing white pictures that hung on the walls was black. As I made my way through the never-ending black oddity, it appeared as if I were coming closer to something, and a faint, high-pitched shriek was heard. As the seconds passed before our light turned green, I could tell something was wrong. I looked out the window to my left and saw nothing, but didnt have time to look to my right. The light turned green, my dad pulled forward, and we allmy aunt, uncle, mom, dad, brother, and Iheard the horrid sound of screeching tires moments before a car collided with our own.
